My name is Mark Alberto Romero. I am a 1st generation Nicaraguan-American artist currently residing in the Bay Area, CA. I focus on artwork inspired by Mesoamerican cultures. My original artwork is created in graphite, however, I use screenprinting and risograph printing to reproduce my artwork. In addition, I also transfer my artwork onto textiles and functional ceramic pieces. I strive to teach my viewers about the diverse history of Mesoamerica, through my reinterpretation of Pre-Columbian art. I want to amplify the Central American representation in art and community spaces.

I aim to revive ancient sculptures, ceramics, and even hieroglyphics, adding a modern twist to these historical artifacts. In doing so, I hope to inspire others to appreciate and learn more about anthropology and Latin America's rich history. I also think it is important to represent my Nicaraguan roots - I am inspired to create drawings for others to feel proud and to be able to explore their roots.
