The US Interventions in Latin America Print
11”x17”, 2-color Risograph print on cream cardstock paper.
The Monroe Doctrine, introduced in 1823, declared Latin America off-limits to European colonization, framing the United States as the region’s protector. In practice, it became a justification for U.S. political, military, and economic intervention across Latin America, often supporting coups, occupations, and dictatorships.
These actions destabilized nations, led to violence, displacement, and long-term economic inequality for civilians. The resulting instability and poverty pushed many families to migrate north in search of safety and opportunity, only to face an increasingly anti-immigration U.S. system that criminalizes the very migrants whose displacement was shaped by U.S. foreign policy, creating a cycle of intervention, migration, and exclusion.
Original artwork collaged by me, via Photoshop, then risograph printed by hand as well.
