The Nicaragua flag shares significant similarities with many other Central American flags, particularly in its color scheme of blue and white stripes, as they all draw inspiration from the flag of the former "United Provinces of Central America," which consisted of a blue-white-blue horizontal tricolor, with the main difference being the specific coat of arms displayed in the central white stripe representing each nation individually; essentially, the Nicaragua flag uses the same basic design but with its own unique emblem depicting volcanoes and a liberty cap, signifying its connection to the wider Central American region.
