Coyolxauhqui is an Aztec moon goddess whose name means “Painted with Bells,” often depicted dismembered in sculpture and reliefs. According to myth, she led her siblings against their mother, Coatlicue, and was defeated by her brother Huitzilopochtli, god of the sun and war. Her story symbolizes the cosmic struggle between the moon and the sun and the cycles of death, renewal, and sacrifice.
