El Disco del Jaguar – A Pre-Columbian Stone Structure from El Salvador
El Disco del Jaguar (The Jaguar Disk) is an ancient pre-Columbian stone carving from El Salvador, believed to be associated with the Pipil or Maya civilizations. This circular stone monument features a stylized jaguar face, a sacred symbol in Mesoamerican cultures. The Disco del Jaguar is attributed to the Cotzumalhuapa culture, which thrived during the Classic Period (300–900 CE) and had a presence in regions of present-day Chiapas (Mexico), Guatemala, and parts of El Salvador. discovered in the late 19th century by historian Santiago Barberena near the village of Cara Sucia in the Ahuachapán department.
